Mechanism of Action (MOA)

INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW

The Ulthera® System was cleared by the FDA in late 2009 for a non-invasive eyebrow lift indication following a full face treatment and is currently marketed worldwide in over 50 countries. In late 2012, the FDA cleared the Ulthera System to be safe and effective for the lifting of lax submental (beneath the chin) and neck tissue.

The Ulthera System uses microfocused ultrasound with visualization (MFU-V) to lift and tighten the skin through specifi c mechanisms. The initial lift seen immediately after an Ultherapy treatment arises from thermally induced collagen coagulation, denaturation and contraction within precise, well-defi ned lesions. The creation of these lesions leads to an infl ammatory wound-healing response which stimulates long-term tissue remodeling and leads to further lifting and tightening. Both stages of lift that occur following Ultherapy are described in further detail below.

It’s subtle. It’s gradual. It’s natural. Let’s face it, that’s how we all age. That doesn’t mean we have to go along with it. With Ultherapy®, we approached the cosmetic solution to aging the same way. Ultherapy non-invasively lifts and tightens the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.1 The power of ultrasound goes to work deep below the skin’s surface, reviving and creating collagen over time for a different kind of lift. As part of the Merz Aesthetics product portfolio, we’re excited to bring you all the benefits of Ultherapy. We believe patients should have a little more control over the way they age. And who wouldn’t want that? t’s a beautiful concept.
